Just in time for Deepavali!

ONE NIGHT IN NEW DELHI

This book is the 27th edition into the City Nights series, published by Tirgearr Publishing.

This book is set during the Festival of Lights in India, also known as Deepavali or Diwali.

Hannah Maguire and Sudesh Kumar had been lovers in Dublin City, both studying for their degrees in similar areas of Archaeology. What she had treated as a college romance, Hannah realized, as he was leaving Dublin for the job of a lifetime back home in India, was she had lost her heart to him.

Now, five years later, Hannah is working as an archivist in the National Museum in Dublin when she's invited to the National Museum of India in New Delhi to inspect a new and rare artifact found on an archaeological dig.

The last person she expects to see when she enters the museum is Sudesh. She didn’t know where he was, or even if he was still in India, but soon learns he's the one who made the discovery, and had been the one encouraging the museum to invite her onto the project.

On meeting, everything they'd shared washes over Hannah—all of the love and passion, and a heart so broken, she still hadn't recovered. To make things more difficult, it's Deepavali/Diwali and Sudesh has promises to make it a memorable experience.

Will this one night really be one to remember, or will Sudesh's secret send Hannah into a tailspin she might not recover from this time?

Experience all the colors of India. Grab your copy of One Night in New Delhi here. And use the mailer on my sidebar to let me know what you think of this story.

Happy reading!

Kemberlee

What's up next? My current WIP.

I'm busy working away on my next book -- One Night in New Delhi. This will be book #27 in Tirgearr Publishing's popular City Nights series.

The research has been amazing, and I've had some help here and there from Indian friends, and those with a love of India. Of course, I've been watching every documentary I can find on India, listening to the  music, and having more than my fair share of curries! And I'd be remiss if I didn't say I was a frequent user of Google Maps. While it doesn't offer the road experience, there are hundreds of images applied to the most popular places.

It's all been a lot of fun.

Getting the story kicked off was a little challenge, but after finding the right path (perhaps via an Indian spirit guide?) I'm on my way.

I'm happy to share a quick extract from my WIP and hope you like it.

“Hannah!”

Startled, I spun at the sound of my name and stumbled into his arms.

As much as I hadn’t expected to see Sudesh while I was in New Delhi, it hadn’t really occurred to me that if I did, it would be in the museum. It was an illogical thought. He was as much an archaeologist as I was.

My nipples instantly pebbled as I slid against him, and every ounce of familiarity crashed over me in waves. My heart pounded hard just then. I was sure I looked as startled as he did.

The weight of my body in his arms compounded our closeness, as he held me just off the floor. A few inches more, and I’d be supine with him on top of me. The thought made that place between my thighs thrum to life.

I’d always loved the way he pronounced my name. His soft accent made the name I never liked sound sensual and beautiful. Even now, after so long, the one simple word was like a punch in the gut and brought up all the feelings I thought I’d cried out of me.

“Sudesh.”

Even to me, his name sounded like a whisper on my lips. I clung to him, praying he’d opt for the floor, even as he pulled me up to stand before him.

He didn’t release me but embraced me with tender familiarity. He cupped my cheek in one hand and kissed me. His palm seared its imprint on my face and I gasped against his mouth. I felt the dupatta fall from my head and my hair fall loose, and his fingers at my nape.

His kiss was too short to be passionate, but also too long to be casual. It was just long enough to muddle my thoughts, and taste the Masala tea on his lips.

I fisted the fabric across his back and felt the muscle mass there I hadn’t remembered from our time together in Dublin. I knew his body better than I knew my own. His time working dig sites had obviously filled him out, and I was curious to see him as he was now.

I didn’t push him away as he held me. I couldn’t. I had to fight my instincts to pull him closer. He’d left me heartbroken, but dammit, I suddenly didn’t care.

But as quickly as he’d kissed me, it was over. It was Sudesh who finally ended the kiss but didn’t pull away.

He gazed down at me with his rich, dark eyes. They darted over me as if searching for something. I didn’t look away though. Through all of my mixed emotions, I wanted to see all of him too, and compare the man he was now to the man I’d known then.

“I very much enjoyed watching you pose as the Goddess Parvati.” Humor danced in his eyes.

I tried looking away then, instantly shy at his comment. “You know me, always mucking about.” I tried pulling out of his arms, but he held me.

“It seems to me, we both enjoyed your mucking about.” His teeth shone through his gentle smile, highlighted against his rich, mocha colored skin. He seemed a little darker than I remembered, and it occurred to me that all the time he spent outdoors on digs had tanned him. In Ireland, we’re so naïve about other cultures that I hadn’t considered this possibility.

He continued gazing at me for a moment, then said, “I am happy to see you.”

It was obvious by his expression he was. It made my insides ache.

It was all too familiar—his embrace, his scent, his taste. It all washed over me and soaked me with memories. My stomach clench into my chest and stole my breath.

I had loved him back then. It took his leaving to realize it had really never been just a fling for me. God help me now, but I still loved him.

Everything I’d been through over the years instantly vanished, and I wanted him. I felt we could simply fall into each other’s arms again—right here—and I’d let him have his way with me.

If I’d been nervous before about working on this project, it paled in comparison to knowing Sudesh was here too.

Why was he here? All I knew was he’d left me . . . left Dublin, I corrected myself . . . for Kashmir. Beyond that, I knew nothing of where the last five years had taken him.

It was too much to bear, so I forced myself to step back before I collapsed against him in tears. I felt the chill when his palm fell away from my cheek, and my body trembled. A curious feeling in the Indian heat.

I crossed my arms in front of me. I knew was a defense mechanism, but it put a barrier between us and gave me a senses of security, even if it was a false sense.

“I’m glad to see you too, Sudesh. I . . .”

I what? What could I say to him now, after so long being apart? Why did you leave me? Where have you been? Why didn’t you come for me? Did you miss me...?

Did I really need to dredge up the past? I’d moved on, hadn’t I? He certainly had. Hell, he could even be married by now, for all I knew. I flicked a glance at his hands and noticed he wasn’t wearing a ring on his finger, but did Hindus honor that western tradition?

Look away, Hannah, I told myself when my gaze found his again. The longer I looked at him, the more I wanted to rush back into his arms. Instead, I looked around the textiles exhibit area, trying to distract myself. My gaze fell onto the statue of Pavarti and I cursed to myself. Mimicking her pose had gotten me into this position in the first place. I’m sure things would have been different had I seen Sudesh again from across the room and not with me falling into his arms.

One Night in New Dehili - Available 26 October.

COVER REVEAL: One Night in New Delhi

OK the wait is over. I'm ready to make my big announcement. It starts with a new book...

🌟 ONE NIGHT IN NEW DELHI 🌟

This book will be #27 in the City Nights series at Tirgearr Publishing, publishing in October, just in time for Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights, which is when this story is set.

What makes this extra special is that my friend, Vikkas Bhardwaj is the cover model!

As many of you know, Vikkas is a well known cover model -- Vikkas Zone -- and he recently added a new line to his collection of stock photographs, at my behest...traditional Indian costume!

One Night in New Delhi is the *very first* cover to feature one of the images from Vikkas' new collection of traditional Indian costumes!

AND he's taking this cover with him to the RT Booklovers Convention in Las Vegas in April to use to promote his new line of images.

I can't tell you how excited I am about this story, about the cover, and about the wonderful correspondence Vikkas and I have had the last couple weeks setting up this cover and the story itself. Vikkas is simply wonderful. Not just to work with, but as a person. He's not just a pretty face ;-) Thanks, Vikkas! You're a prince!!

Stay tuned over the coming weeks as I will be sharing some extracts from the book on my Facebook page. I know October seems a long way away, but it's really barely six months. But the book should be ready for preorder sometime between July and August, so the wait won't be too long.

Also big kudos going out to Cora Graphics for this amazingly stunning cover art!!! You're the Chef, Cora!!

Be sure to visit Vikkas' website and then follow him on Facebook.

So...what do you all think? Is this cover hot or what?! Would love to hear your comments.

One Night in Dublin is now available at all major ebook sellers for just $2.99.

Reviews are already coming in --

If you’re looking for a fun, light, and sexy read, look no further than One Night in Dublin. Once I got started, I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting. Wow! I was swept away to Ireland where I was drawn into the protagonist’s life changing choices she would make during one of the busiest times of Dublin’s year—St. Patrick’s Day. And boy does it bring a surprise. Enjoy. I know I did. ~ Amanda Berbatiotis, Goodreads, 5 stars

Sive has decided to make a choice on St. Patrick’s Day – a big choice that could impact her future significantly. In the midst of all the hoopla of the celebrations taking place in Dublin we meet the three men in Sive’s life and hear her thoughts as she tries to determine which one might be her forever guy. This novella is more than a love story. It tells of the growth in character of Sive, gives history of the city and provides an ending that is better than even Sive expected. This is a well-crafted, well-told story that had me riveted and rooting for Sive throughout. And, the guy she ends up with would be any woman’s dream! ~ Cathy Geha, Goodreads, 5 stars

Thank you so much, Amanda and Cathy! I'm so thrilled you both enjoyed this story.

Have you read One Night in Dublin? If so, I'd love to hear what you thought of it.

If you enjoyed my story, does it inspire you to try other books in the City Nights series? I hope so. I'm in great company!

Holiday Specials at Tirgearr Publishing

You know what time of year it is. I won't say it, but you know!

My publisher, Tirgearr Publishing, has started their holiday sale. From now through the New Year, all of their holiday books are marked down to just 99c/89c euro/77p!

This includes The Power of Love, set in the west of Ireland over the you-know-what season.

You may have already read the current blurb here on the site, but here's a taste from a little farther into the story --

He’d practically killed himself getting to the hospital. When Ethan got the call saying Elaine had collapsed at work, he panicked and dropped everything to get to her side. He still had not been allowed to see her, as she was still undergoing tests, so he waited in the private room he had made sure their health insurance covered.

A moment later his pacing was interrupted when the door pushed open and Elaine was wheeled in on a gurney. As assistants helped her into bed and the nurse made her comfortable, his heart pumped hard in his chest, stealing his breath. Elaine looked pale and groggy. He wondered if she even knew he was in the room.

Then he was alone with his wife. She lay so still. The rise under the covers told him she had not lost their baby, but his chest tightened anyway, fear pumping blood though his body at a fierce rate.

“Are you going to stand there all day?” Her voice was thread, her eyes just barely open. She lifted her hand off the bed, beckoning him over.

Ethan instantly went to her bedside and kissed her clammy brow, stroking her once lustrous golden hair that now fell in limp strands around her shoulders. He gazed into her tired green eyes and his heart squeezed again.

“How are you feeling, love?”

Elaine grasped his hand as he stepped back, encouraging him to sit beside her on the bed. He did so and kept her hand in his, leaning in to kiss her forehead once again, as if his kisses could rouse her out of whatever had weakened her.

“I’ve been better.”

“What happened, Lany? They said you collapsed at work.”

She shook her head lightly. “I-I don’t know. I don’t remember much. I was helping a customer—talking about babies . . . you know how I am. The next think I knew, I woke up here.”

“Have you spoken with the doctor? What did he say?”

When she shook her head once more, he rose with the intention of going to find the doctor to get the test results. Just then, the door swung opened and an authoritative balding man with glasses perched on the end of his nose strode into the room. Dressed in black trousers and a white lab coat, a stethoscope around his neck and a clipboard in his hands, he had to be the doctor. He moved to the foot of the bed, going over the papers on his clipboard. It seemed he stood there for hours before he finally looked up.

“Are you the husband?”

The husband? “Oh, aye,” said Ethan, not even trying to disguise his annoyance. “What’s wrong with my wife?”

OMG, the suspense!

Other Tirgearr Publishing books on sale include --

Christmas Present by Isabo Kelly

Midwinter Masquerade by Romy Gemmell

The Trouble with Holly by Kristi Ahlers

A New Year and New Happenings

It's a new year and new things are on the horizon. Now that I've caught up from the holidays, and January coming to a close, I figured it would be a good opportunity to put a few things out there.

There was a great turn out for the Christmas themed stories through Tirgearr Publishing at the start of December 2012. My story, The Power of Love, among those stories released at that time. This is probably my favorite short story so far. Definitely the most emotive one.

The year is looking quite busy here. Next up for me will be a guest appearance on Dellani Oakes' radio show at Red River Radio. I'll be joined by some of my fellow authors, including, David Toft, Cathy Mansell, Charlene Raddon, KA Laity, Lynette Willows, Carley Bauer . . . I don't have the final list yet so forgive me if I missed someone!

This show is to commemorate the one year anniversary of Tirgearr Publishing. You'll want to tune in, as we'll be announcing something great coming up to celebrate the company's birthday!

Save The Date:
Date: Wednesday, 27 February
Time: 3-5pm EST (8-10pm GMT, 12 noon-2pm PST)
Place: Red River Radio

I'm currently working on a few personal projects, including finalizing the edits for Shape of My Heart, book three in the Irish Pride Series, which is out in the Fall.

I'm also working on a totally different project, a time travel, currently entitled The Diary. This book is slated for release early Spring 2014 to coincide with the 1000 year commemoration of the Battle of Clontarf in Dublin, Ireland, and also the 1000 year memorial of Ard Ri/High King Brian Boru's murder after that battle. As I understand it, a re-enactment group in Dublin will be putting on a big program for that weekend. Pretty exciting stuff.

As some of you know, I also write erotica under the name Scarlett Valentine. I'm currently working on her next release in the ABCs of S-E-X: Love by the Letter Series. That book is called Beguiler. Following that book is Conquered. Currently working on an early Summer release for Beguiler and late Fall for Conquered. Meanwhile, if you haven't read Awakening, grab a copy.

I'm sure there will be a few other surprises through the year, too. I can't tell you all of them. If I did, they wouldn't be surprises now, would they?! ;-)

All of my books are available for all digital readers. Check out my books' pages and click directly onto the link for your preferred device.

As always, I enjoy hearing from readers, so if you've read any of my work, I'd love to hear your comments.

Happy 2013 everyone and thanks for your support!

The Power of Love

How cool is this? The Power of Love, my short holiday story, has gotten a facelift!

The Power of Love is also getting a rewrite. This story was originally published in a holiday anthology back in 2006 and has now been picked up by my publisher, Tirgearr Publishing, for re-release. This short story is being expanded into a novelette length story and will include some of the steamier scenes that were not allowed in the first release.

To refresh your memory, this story is set in Limerick City, Ireland. Hero and heroine, Nathan and Elain, are newlyweds with a plan for their future. But that plan doesn't include getting pregnant so quickly. Regardless, Nathan is over the moon about being a father and they quickly change their plans to include a child.

Then Elaine is hit with some bad news at a prenatal exam and both must face truth that their charmed life is about to come crashing down around them.

Do Christmas wishes really come true? Elaine's life depends on it!

One reviewer said of The Power of Love, "Shortland writes a powerfully emotional story that moved me to tears with an intensity that took my breath away." ~ M. Rondeau

Can't get any better than that!

Please visit my books page to read an excerpt of this story. And be sure to check out Tirgearr Publishing around the 25th of October for the release. Just in time for the holidays :-)

I love hearing from readers so please keep the emails coming. You can also find me on Facebook --

Having suffered rejection from callous men in the industry, she thought she would get away from ‘casting couch’ mentality. But when she finds herself in the office of Fergus Manley, all bets are off. Disgusted by his continual come-ons and lewd invitations, Eilis is looking for ‘the one’ who will take her career to the next level, getting out from under Fergus’s controlling thumb.

Aspiring blues guitarist, Kieran Vaughan, is looking for his big break. But after suffering near bankruptcy at the hands of an unscrupulous business partner, Kieran is left picking up the pieces. He’s unsure if the debts will ever be paid or if he’ll ever have a chance to do something with his music. At his whit’s end, he’s about ready to throw in the towel and find a full-time job with real hours.

When Eilis discovers Kieran playing in a seedy pub in Dublin’s Northside, she knows he’s the one rare talent she’s been searching for. With her know-how and his talent, Eilis will finally get everything she’s been waiting for. Neither of them count on the powerful attraction from first meeting. Eilis is so rocked by Keiran’s forthright words that it sends her running. Kieran risks being arrested as he chases Eilis across Ireland.
